Mayco’s newest designer, Justin Paik Reese, is this year’s Headlining Artist demonstrating at NCECA. During Justin’s demonstration, he will focus on his soda-firing roots, throwing a large piece with his signature intricate carvings. Justin will discuss his process, background, and journey to joining the Mayco team by introducing Mayco’s newest glazes and how they are a great alternative to his soda-fired results. Be sure to attend Justin’s demonstrations at NCECA and find him in the Mayco booth.
After graduating in 2010 with a BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design, Justin has since been focusing on refining his forms, always trying to discover efficiency whenever he can. His passions and inspirations involve 90’s pop culture, retro video game collections, old-school sports figures, architecture, and Korean pottery and patterning, all of which are a source of inspiration for his current work. He fires to cone 10/11 in his soda kiln, often looking for rich carbon-trapping with bright, electric celadons. Justin is also devoted to helping create a culture full of creativity through social media.
