Artwork

-Acceptable file formats: JPEG or PDF – we can NOT accept Word docs

-Artwork must be HIGH-RES: 300 dpi. Any artwork less than 300 dpi will produce pixelated images.

-Silkscreens are 12″H x 15″L. Printable area is 11″ H x 14″ L due to 1/2″ margins.

*IMPORTANT – “Artwork” includes any artwork to which you have ownership or the proper copyrights to reproduce.  During check-out, you will be required to read and accept the Terms and Conditions for sale, which include a Hold Harmless Agreement and an Acknowledgement of Copyright statement.

For logos and artwork that you are using with permission: you will be required to submit documentation that details your usage rights. Mayco reserves the right to reject images we deem inappropriate or of questionable copyright status.

Due to liability, we are unable to print explicit images.

JPG files

Mayco screen printing will produce an EXACT replica of the file you submit. All the content of a photograph: background, subject, shading, etc., will be printed onto the screen.  If you wish to have only an element of the photograph to appear on the screen you will need to “clip out” that element using Adobe Photoshop or similar graphics software. Mayco does not offer this service.

A screen made from this image will include the trees, the pavement – everything you see in this photo. The contrast of light an dark areas will translate into the screen – you will get an exact replication.

In this version, the car was clipped out using Adobe Photoshop. It was also converted to grayscale. A screen produced from this image will include all the contrast and shading as seen in this photo.

The cars were converted to halftone images. The contrast levels were reduced – but tonal differences are still noticeable. The “density” of the screen – the amount of perforations “burned” into the screen – is reduced when using halftone images.

Artwork Considerations

  • Margins: We recommend a ½” to 1″ margin around each design element or image.
  • Rescaling your images: scaling a higher resolution image to a smaller size will not reduce print quality, but scaling an image to a larger size WILL cause distortion and an inferior screen image.
  • One-Color screens: we do not offer 4-color separation screens at this time.
  • Adding multiple colors to your design: we provide several techniques how to accomplish this on this site.
  • Half-tone designs are acceptable.
  • Using Mayco Screens: we can scale up (or down) ANY images found on Mayco’s designer silkscreens. For example: expanding any animal image from the Woodland Animals screen from 3″ to 6″.  Just indicate the product SKU and the specific image in your email – no need to upload any image or file.

Copyright Considerations

  • Public Domain: If you are unsure about when a work was created or published, search the records of the U.S. Copyright Office. A notice that says “this work is dedicated to the public domain” is typically an indication that it is OK to republish without permission.
  • “Copyright-free” artwork: There are many online photo banks that advertise themselves as offering “copyright-free” images. While these images are generally safe to take, always read the terms and conditions before you use anything. Just because an image is free doesn’t mean you can use it freely.
  • Openly Licensed: An openly licensed image means that the copyright holder has decided to automatically grant certain reprint permissions. The most common form of openly licensing an image is to apply a Creative Commons license. There are a variety of different Creative Commons licenses, from fairly restrictive to very permissive. So if you come across an image that is licensed this way, make sure you understand the terms before you use it.
