Rapid Roll

Take the guesswork and mixing process out and simply coat the interior with Rapid Roll!

Provides a glossy black or white finish on your ware

Rapid Roll was designed as a quick and efficient way to apply glaze to the inside of wares without the need for thinning traditional glazes. Available in both black and white, Rapid Roll dries quickly and fires glossy. It can be used on greenware, earthenware, or stoneware bisque and fired from cone 06-6.

Provides a sealed surface on the inside of ware for ease and consistency.

General use

Shake well. Squeeze the amount of Rapid Roll you think you will need to coat the inside of your ware into a cup or bowl. Try not to use more than you will need. Once the glaze is poured into and out of the shape, it’s best not to reuse due to contamination potential and viscosity changes to the product with repeated rolling. Pour the contents into the ware and immediately begin turning the piece while tilting it to allow the product to fully coat the inside of the ware. Pour the excess color out and leave the object upside down for 30 seconds – 1 minute to ensure that the glaze does not settle in the bottom. Remove any drips from the exterior with a damp sponge. Glaze the outside of your shape with the desired products. Fire to appropriate temperature for the ware and colors used, Cone 06-10 (999°C/ 1830°F – 1222°C/ 2381°F).

Black and White Rapid Roll can be intermixed to create shades of grey or used together for a marbling technique. Tinting with other products is not recommended due to changes in viscosity and compromising fit.

Helpful Hints

  • Can be used from cone 06-10.
  • Do not pour product back into container due to potential cross contaminations and change in viscosity, which may cause the ware to crack.
  • Pour what you need into a small cup; this allows you to control the amount of Rapid Roll used in a piece and avoid unnecessary waste.
  • Limit reuse in additional ware.
  • Black and White Rapid Roll can be intermixed to create various shades of grey. They can also be used together for a marbling technique.
  • Tinting with other products to another color is not recommended since it may change the viscosity thus increasing the likelihood of cracking.
  • Can be applied to greenware and bisque.
  • This product is not intended to be used as a dipping glaze for the outside of items.
  • This product is not designed for brushing methods.

Usage Variations and FAQs

Can I use it at a higher temperature?

Rapid Roll can be used from cone 06-10 (999°C/ 1830°F – 1222°C/ 2381°F). The choice of clay body, thickness of glaze application, firing process, and temperature can influence results. Testing recommended.

Does using Rapid Roll mean my pieces won't crack?

Rapid Roll is not a guarantee that items with varying coefficients of expansion will not split or crack. Many other factors such as clay body, thickness, firing practices, and other factors can influence results.

What products does Mayco recommend using with Rapid Roll?

Because Foundation and Stroke and Coat glazes have a similar expansion rate as Rapid Roll, you can use those on the outside of ware with very little chance of cracking.

Can I only use Rapid Roll as a liner?

Rapid Roll was designed to be used as a quick and efficient way to glaze the inside of wares. However, due to its fluidity, other uses for this product may include a base for marbling with other glazes. Mayco recommends experimenting and making samples to test results.
