2021 Stoneware Glazes

Nature-inspired Stoneware

Created to complement the natural world – from rainforests to cenotes to the Himalayas – these nature-inspired glazes will bring vibrant and lush colors to your studio. Available to order in liquid, dry formula (SD-#) and sample kit from MaycoColors.com or your nearest Mayco distributor.

SW-185 through SW-188 have similar performance characteristics with different colors! All four are soft matte glazes that will pool glossy and break lighter. We recommend firing our matte glazes to cone 6 to produce a satin matte finish. SW-189 Cenote is a stoneware crystal glaze that uses SW-166 Norse Blue as the base glaze and has a variety of brown crystals that melt during firing.

The 2021 Stoneware Matte glazes (SW-185 Rainforest, SW-186 Azurite, SW-187 Himalayan Salt, and SW-188 Landslide) are a mixture of AP Non-Toxic and CL (Health Caution) label. Please review the individual color label for health classification and any appropriate warnings. All four glazes are not recommended for dinnerware due to the durability of the fired glaze. Some glazes, regardless of surface texture or porosity of underlying clay body, will be designated as not suitable for dinnerware as the fired glaze surface is not durable and can be impacted by contact with food or liquids. While it may not be harmful, it is certainly not desirable. SW-185 Rainforest, SW-186 Azurite, SW-187 Himalayan Salt, and SW-188 Landslide are recommended for ornamental use only. Stoneware crystal glaze, SW-189 Cenote glaze is AP Non-Toxic and Dinnerware Safe when used according to manufacturer’s directions and fired to the clay body’s vitrification temperatures. However, discretion and judgment should be used if the glaze surface is heavily textured, less from a safety and more from an aesthetic perspective. Note: Finishedware producers may be required to have their ware food safe tested prior to introducing into commerce.
