Designer: Marcia Roullard
Project Time Span: 1.5 hours
Skill Level: Intermediate

Instructions: Project instructions below. Mayco encourages you to vary colors, patterns and techniques to create your own designs.

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 Bisque. Moisten a clean Sponge and wipe Bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Cut out the pattern for the bird with the flower. Trace on the plate.
  3. For all the colors brushed directly on the plate, brush the color slightly past the pencil line.
  4. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 2 Coats of SC-14 Java Bean on the branch. Brush slightly past the pencil line.
  5. Apply 2 Coats of SC-24 Dandelion on the flowers including the center.
  6. Apply 2 Coats of SC-28 Blue Isle on the bird and the leaves.
  7. From the pattern, cut apart the flower, bird, leaves. Cut the branch into pieces to make it easier to work with.
  8. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply to the backside of the cut out paper bird SC-28 Blue Isle and the beak with SC-24 Dandelion then press lightly on the painted bird on the plate. Go on to the next paper piece then come back to this piece to press down firmly. Some color will seep from the edges. This process should be used for all the paper pieces.
  9. Apply to the backside of the branch cut out SC-41 Brown Cow then press to the painted branch on the plate.
  10. Apply SC-24 Dandelion to the flower cut out paper then press to the plate.
  11. Apply to the edges of the leaves SC-29 Blue Grass then fill in with SC-28 Blue Isle. Press on the plate.
  12. With a damp Sponge, remove the excess Glaze that has seeped out from the edges of the paper.
  13. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 Coats of FN-014 Antique White on the plate.
  14. Apply the third coat with FN-001 White, brushing in, with wispy strokes, some SC-43 Lettuce Alone into the wet Glaze in the background.
  15. When the shine leaves the Glaze its time to check the paper for removal.
  16. Pull off the branch paper at this time so that some of the SC-41 Brown Cow comes with the paper. This will give the branch the appearance of peeling bark.
  17. Peel off the remaining paper when the paper will come off clean, leaving the paint on the plate.
  18. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of S-2724 Lotus Blossom with crystals to the bird. Stay away from the edges with the Glaze.
  19. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of S-2709 Cappuccino Mint with crystals. Again, stay away from the edges.
  20. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of CG-756 Firecracker to the center of the flower and the remainder of the flower with CG-753 Sassy Orange, staying away from the edges.
  21. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, apply SC-15 Tuxedo to the birds eye.
  22. Allow to dry.
  23. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
