389.Wood Grain Canvas
Designer: Marcia Roullard

Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.

  2. Use the 2" foam roller to apply SC-34 Down to Earth to the MT-002 Wood Grain Mat, stamp across the vertical direction of the canvas.  Make sure to press on the entire surface of the mat to ensure all the wood grain design will transfer.

  3. Tape over the edge of the stamped surface before continuing with the wood grain stamp.  Note: Flip the mat for the second stamp to vary the pattern. Slightly overlap the tape when you do your second stamp.

  4. If you want to stamp the sides, apply SC-34 Down to Earth with the foam roller, cushion the mat with bubble wrap, towels or a cloth and press the bisque into the mat. Repeat on each side.

  5. Place the canvas so it is sitting vertically in front of you. Starting at the top, pencil in a line every two inches. Use a water based marker to go over the line to make it easier to see each section when painting.

  6. Tape off every other stripe on the canvas, apply two even coats of SC-92 Cafe Ole' with the AB-834 Base Coat Brush. Remove the tape. Paint the remaining two stripes with two even coats of SC-54 Vanilla Dip with the same brush.

  7. Tape off both sides of the stripes to create a 1/8 inch narrow line to give the appearance of a thin space between the wood slats. Use the CB-106 Script Liner to apply one coat of SC-34 Down To Earth to the small space between the tape.

  8. For ease of word placement, pencil a vertical line, 3/4 inch from the left edge of the canvas. Pencil a horizontal line 1/2 inch up from the bottom of each stripe. Also pencil a line 3/4 inch up from the bottom of the canvas. You will have five lines.

  9. When dry, sprinkle a pinch of AC-310 Silkscreen Medium over SC-15 Tuxedo. Using a palette knife, mix color and medium together to the consistency of peanut butter.

  10. Position the word screens so they line up with the pencil lines, and then rub the thickened Tuxedo over the screens. Remove the screens and clean.

  11. Pencil or trace on the flower, cat or heart to the right of the words. Use the CB-106 Script Liner to apply two coats of SC-74 Hot Tamale to the petals, SC-26 Green Thumb to the leaves and stem, and SC-97 Cant-elope to the center of the flower.

  12. When dry, outline and dot the center with SG-401 Black.

  13. Dip in clear glaze, or brush on one coat of S-2101 Clear with CB-604 Soft Fan.

  14. Fire to Cone 05/06.

  2. When dry, outline the cat, eyes and collar with SG-401 Black or use a 10/0 Liner Brush with the Designer Liner. Add dots to the collar.

  1. Use the CB-106 Script Liner to apply two coats of SC-74 Hot Tamale to the heart. Use the same brush to apply one of SC-89 Cutie Pie Coral as a highlight on the heart. Apply a second brushstroke of Cutie Pie Coral and blend with a brushstroke of Hot Tamale.

  2. When dry, outline the heart with SG-401 Black or use a 10/0 Liner Brush with the Designer Liner
